It was a great year for the Beta Pi chapter.  We had a great series of fundraisers (Candles, Coupons, and Cookie dough), had our own softball team, a great pledge class, and hosted the Southeast Regional convention in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Brothers and friends of the Beta Pi chapter fielded "The Pharm Boys" a team in the Winchester Parks and Rec Frostbite Slow-Pitch Softball

League.  The team was sponsored by The Beta Pi Chapter and by Cundiff and Associates CPA. And our thanks goes out to our sponsors and especially OUR FANS for their support!  We didn't have the best record in the league, but we had loads of fun and by far the BEST cheering

section in the league.  (The other teams were so jealous)

We also had a special addition to the Beta Pi family with the birth of Addison to ΒΠ Brother Megan Smith and her husband Jason.

Note: I have recently taken over the duties of webmaster for the Beta Pi Chapter Site and will (hopefully) be updating this section regularly.

So check back often for news and information about our chapter and PDC.  AAAE---Bryan

1998-1999

In our second year, we as a chapter grew a lot and learned a lot about each
other and how to become the best of the best.  We sponsored many social and
service events.  Chris Turney went to LDS and taught us how to become a
stronger and better chapter through working from within.  Our first Rush took
place during the fall of 1998, we sponsored many events and had a lot of fun
while learning a lot about our fellow Pharmacy Students.  Through events like
"Up Close and Personal", "Ho Down", and "Cow Dart Competition".

Through a lot of interaction between organizations PDC sponsored many
events that benefited the community and school.  Food Drives, Blood Drives,
Guest Speakers (Judy Landes from Academic Support). In the spring we
initiated 9 new brothers into the brotherhood of PDC!  They all took on the
challenge of lifetime of learning.  And too end the year the SOP Fraternities
sponsored "Dance the Night Away"  a semi-formal for all Pharmacy students,
faculty, and staff.

As we head into a new year, we hope to out do ourselves 10 fold, because:
Each needs the help of the other!

1997-1998

The Beta Pi Chapter of Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity was chartered May
2, 1998. The Fraternity was brought to Shenandoah School of Pharmacy
through the hard work of three individuals. Dr. Ellington, the Grand Vice
President for Communications, was approached with the idea to start a
Chapter here by two eager students. Jimmy Surratt and Gregory Norman, both
had been involved with Phi Delta Chi through friends or relatives. Through the
hard work of these three people, support and interest for Phi Delta Chi grew at
an alarming rate. The initial pledge class consisted of 23 individuals who
wanted to be Brothers for Life!!!

The Pledging period began in late January after bid cards were signed. We had
heard from John Grabenstein, Grand President, as he came to Winchester
following one of his many travels around this great country. He talked to us
about his work as a pharmacists, the military and Phi Delta Chi. We also met
several times to hear about Phi Delta Chi from the faculty. All this resulted in a
group of students petitioning Phi Delta Chi for a Chapter at Shenandoah
University. Twenty-three of these students decided to take on the challenge of
joining Phi Delta Chi and began the long process of obtaining University
recognition.

The Beta Pi Chapter also owes a great deal of thanks to the Delta Xi Chapter
of Kappa Psi Pharmacy Fraternity here at Shenandoah School of Pharmacy.
They guided us in the process of becoming a recognized group on campus,
without them the process would have been a very long and grueling one!

One of the aspects of fraternity life is being involved in University life. The
Allied Health Activities Committee sponsored a Spring Picnic for Nursing,
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Care, & Pharmacy
Students. Phi Delta Chi attended the picnic and participated in the softball
tournament. We did not win the tournament but we did have a lot of fun and
had out first casualty. Chris Turney trying to be Willie Mays went after a fly ball
but unlike Mays he ran into the fence post, and had to be taken to the
Winchester ER. He was OK, the only thing hurt was his pride!
